Fathers Are More Active In Raising Children
Different then, different now. Maybe that's the right phrase to describe the role of parents today. Along with the development of the times and the proliferation of research in the field of parenting, the knowledge of Mums and Dads in this regard has also grown.
One of them is the role of the father in the upbringing of the child. Unlike the baby boomers or generation X, the role of fathers in generation Y and Z in caring for their children is much higher!
In the past, the roles of fathers and mothers in parenting were still fragmented. According to psychologist Ayoe Sutomo, M.Psi., from TigaGenerasi, this is due to the concept of gender stereotypes and gender role expectations that apply in society.
Gender stereotypes are beliefs about how men and women should behave. However, there is a lot of bias in this regard. “The man is described with a stereotype who is calmer, more logical, then in household tasks he is more providing or as a breadwinner. While the woman is more dominant emotionally, then in household chores more to the task of parenting or care taking, as care taker” said Ayo.
In the gender role expectation itself, women are expected to play a greater role in child rearing, while men play a role in earning the main income. When these expectations run properly, there will be reinforcement and praise from the environment. Unfortunately if it doesn't go that way, there will bepunishment”, for example oblique views, both from family and social.

There is a Shift in the Division of Tasks Related to Child Parenting
According to Ayoe when interviewed exclusively by Teman Bumil, even though the two concepts are still valid, the number of studies and advances in the world of parenting has led to a shift in the division of tasks in parenting.
Currently, there are many couples who have already applied the concept non traditional marriage or non-traditional weddings. They are much more open to new values and more equal in the division of household roles. So, their concept of thinking is very advanced and modern.
This reality is supported by a survey compiled by Teman Bumil with Populix to 1,061 mothers in Indonesia. As many as 75% of fathers took part in discussing the parenting pattern that would be applied to their children with their mothers, 65% helped prepare all the needs of mothers and children, 61% were willing to share a schedule for caring for children, and 55% volunteered to help care for children when they were sick.
In fact, today's father's attention has been shown since his wife was still pregnant. Of the 452 pregnant women who took part in the survey, 84% said they were always accompanied by their husbands during pregnancy control and 57% said that they always actively asked their obstetrician about the condition of their partner's pregnancy.

The Role of Fathers in Children's Lives
When it comes to parenting styles from mothers and fathers, both of them do have their own characteristics. When interviewed by Teman Bumil, Ayoe said, fathers will be more concerned with the realm of stimulation related to play and activities that involve movement.
From the emotional aspect, fathers tend to be more assertive, more daring to take challenges, and more daring to explore something. If it is related to social, it is used to solve conflicts, thus making children more confident when they enter the social world or when playing with their friends.
A study also says that when children are close enough to their fathers, they are less likely to get bad influences from the environment.
The more fathers are involved in parenting, the better. From all aspects of child development, ranging from physical, social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, to cognitive, it is hoped that there will be involvement from the father. So, children get learning or values from their mothers, as well as from their fathers.

Although it is likely that fathers will spend time working, that does not mean that a bond cannot be created between them and their children. The key is not in how much time you have to spend together, but in the quality. Some research says, actually 20-30 minutes of spending time together is enough, it's just done consistently and focused.
"That is, indeed 30 minutes accompanying with full, not accompanied by other activities, so that children get a full emotional connection with their parents at that time and are carried out routinely every day, "says Ayoe. Hopefully, it can be enough to build a good communication relationship. Parents can also monitor the child's development and the things that are liked by the child.
Interestingly, the need to have time with children seems to be very high among today's fathers. Of the 1,061 participants who took the Teman Bumil and Populix survey, 83% of fathers actually took the time to play with their children every day. Thus, the roles between mothers and fathers will be balanced, so as to optimize the potential of children. (US)
