Getting to Know the Various Side Effects of Immunization in Children

When a baby is born, the immune system is not fully developed. This condition puts the child at risk of infection. Therefore, giving vaccines or immunizations is very important.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccines can reduce the risk of infection by helping the body build natural defenses and develop immunity against disease.

Vaccines themselves contain antigens, the part of the germ that causes the immune system to work.

The immune response to the antigen then causes a number of side effects of immunization or what is known as AEFI (post-immunization co-occurrence).

According to dr. Muhammad Iqbal RamadhanThere are various side effects of immunization in children. The response varies in form depending on the body's reaction to the antigen.

"Not all of them are heavy, some are light. So, the symptoms also vary, some are feverish, some are swollen. Even serious symptoms cause seizures or shortness of breath, for example anaphylactic symptoms,” said dr. Iqbal.
