Neutralize Vaccines to Treat COVID-19

In line with 'Susu Bear', green coconuts have suddenly become the hunted lately. Allegedly there is a wrong assumption about the benefits of coconut water for COVID-19.

Not only rare, the price of green coconut in some places has gone up insanely. If it is usually only around Rp. 15,000, some traders sell it for Rp. 30,000 to Rp. 45,000 per item.

"Coconut (green) is more expensive, many are looking for it. I sell Rp. 30,000, which is cheap, in Depok there are those who sell up to Rp. 45,000," said Icha when met at his stall in Ciputat, South Tangerang, quoted from detikFinance Wednesday (7/7/ 2021).

A broadcast or chain message that has actually been circulating since the end of 2020, has recently gone viral. The message contained a 'COVID-19 cure' ingredient consisting of:

• 1 young coconut, take the water
• 1 lemon juice taken
• 1 tablespoon salt.

The three are mixed and then drunk, accompanied by claims that the virus will disappear in 1 hour.

The COVID-19 Task Force has several times conveyed rebuttals related to the recipe or ingredients. Although coconut water and lime juice have healthful properties, so far there is no evidence that they can eradicate COVID-19.

Neutralizing the COVID-19 Vaccine

Apart from being mythical as a 'medicine' to cure COVID-19, young coconut water has also been widely claimed to be able to neutralize the COVID-19 vaccine. In the early days of the COVID-19 vaccination program, many people felt compelled to do what the company required them to do.

"Just got a voice note. It contains an invitation to drink young coconut for those who don't want to be vaccinated but must still be vaccinated because they follow orders from superiors," wrote one Twitter user which later went viral.

Spokesperson for the COVID-19 vaccination program from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), Lucia Rizka Andalusia, when contacted by detikcom confirmed that the information was false. The link between coconut water to neutralize the COVID-19 vaccine is implausible.

"This vaccine is injected into the arm muscle, while coconut water is drunk into the stomach, so it has nothing to do with it," he said when contacted by detik.com, Thursday (21/1/2021).
