The spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia has almost reached its highest level
Jakarta -
Regarding the current surge in massive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained, the main problem with COVID-19 is its very large transmission. In fact, the fatality rate of this disease should be below HIV and TB.
He said that the transmission of the Corona virus in Indonesia has now almost reached level 4 as the highest level referring to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). Meanwhile, the response including testing and tracing is still far below the required limit.
"In fact, in terms of community transmission, our transmission rate is at level 3. It's almost reached the highest level or highest transmission. The hospitalization and death are also high," he said in an online discussion, Wednesday (7/7/2021).
"While our response capacity on the testing side is still very far below, tracing is also very far below. The hospital's capacity is moderate, still tolerable," he continued.
He explained that the COVID-19 pandemic could indeed last for a very long time. However, the problem is that if the transmission is unstoppable, the number of patients will exceed the capacity of health services. As a result, testing, tracing, and isolation must be maximized.
"Humans have experienced (pandemic) since hundreds of years ago. We already know what the main goal is, the main goal is to reduce the rate of transmission. In English, flattening the curve so that infected people and those who are affected have to be hospitalized can still be facilitated by our health system."
