WHO Recommends 2 Drugs for COVID-19, Is There Ivermectin?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has made recommendations for new drugs for treating severe COVID-19 patients, namely arthritis drugs or corticosteroids Actemra and Kevzara.

This recommendation is based on data showing that both drugs can reduce the risk of death and the need for a ventilator. This drug-related study involved 10,930 patients.

"We have updated our clinical care nursing guidelines to reflect these latest developments," said WHO Health Emergencies official Janet Diaz Reuters, Wednesday (7/7/2021).

On the Therapeutics and COVID-19: Living Guideline page by WHO, they write that corticosteroids are highly recommended for patients with severe and critical symptoms of COVID-19. However, its use should still be under the supervision of a doctor.

How not, these two drugs are classified as very strong and can trigger side effects such as intestinal perforation, cancer, liver, to hepatitis.

What about Ivermectin?

Quoted from its official website, WHO said it did not recommend Ivermectin in COVID-19 patients except in the context of clinical trials. The effect of Ivermectin on mortality, mechanical ventilation, hospital stay, duration of hospitalization, and viral clearance remains uncertain due to insufficient evidence.

"Recommendations for using the drug only in clinical trial settings," the WHO wrote.
